Can we heal ourselves and the Earth if we reconnect with the primal beauty of the wild and with the erotic pulse in everything that lives? ”

NÉFUR

Singer, composer, sound artist and performer

Néfur is a Catalan-born, Iceland-based musician working at the intersection of music, ecology, and technology. She sings and creates musical experiences with disappearing glaciers.

Her compositions and performances have been recognised internationally including being nominated for Performer of the Year (Önnur Tónlist) at the Icelandic Music Awards 2026 and the BBC Sound of the Year Awards 2021. Néfur holds a distinction-awarded MA in Performance Making from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BA in Music from ESMUC (Barcelona).

She tours internationally, featuring at the 2025 UN Ocean Conference (Nice); The Arctic Circle Assembly (Reykavik) and Climate Week New York as well as contemporary music festivals such as Spitalfields Music Festival, CTM Festival Berlin and the Upprásin concert series in Harpa, Reykjavik.

Her latest album, The Water, The Lover, was released in 2025, crafted entirely from Icelandic glacier sounds and voice.

Her compositions and performances explore the interdependence between humans, glaciers, and the wider ecology of water. Her work is an invitation to reconnect—emotionally, spiritually, and somatically—with our kinship to the natural world. Rooted in listening, her performances call us to re-align with the ancient rhythms of the Earth and to reclaim creativity and joy as a form of collective resilience.

THE WATER, THE LOVER

The Water, The Lover is both a studio album and a performative concert with seven compositions that explore a new mythology of kinship with glaciers. The Egg, The Mermaid, The String, The Human, The Mirror, The Phoenix and The Source are myths and archetypal stories that nourish an intimacy with water bodies and feed the sensuous universes of intuition and ancestral memory.

Néfur composed and produced The Water, The Lover using her field recordings of Icelandic glaciers in combination with her voice. She recorded sounds of glaciers between 2021 and 2023 in Snaefellsjökull, Solheimajökull, Vatnajökull, Ok -the first Icelandic glacier to be lost- and Langjökull.

PODCAST

The Glacier's Song

A podcast by Néfur

In the podcast The Glacier's Song, I am sharing insights into the personal and creative process of creating this project, which actually started with a dream I had back in 2020: I was seeing myself on stage singing with a glacier that would make her sounds, too.

I started releasing episodes of The Glacier's Song on Spotify in July 2023.

In The Glacier's Song podcast you can find creative, artistic and personal insights into my process, meditations with sounds of glaciers, glacier expedition sonic reports and examples, conversations with key artistic collaborators of the project as well as with writers and researchers with an environmental focus.

The Glacier's Song is available to listen on Spotify.
